I think the carrot if you don't mind, is the job and following best practice when putting yourself forward. All too many times I find people who unknowingly sabotage their efforts but some of what I pointed out in the article. I think we tend to get caught up in our efforts to be assertive, only to find out that we are actually working against ourselves. I understand where you're coming from and realize you're trying to give constructive criticism. However, beating up on discouraged job seekers, who are facing real unprecedented financial and personal devastation hardly seems called for. I'm all for reality checks, but this article is all stick and no carrot.
