What do you want from your job right now?  Maybe you just want a job.  It’s not so much that you have to settle for the next best thing that comes along,  It’s not like they are banging down the door offering you a job either.  Sometimes you crave for just a little more.  But who can you trust in knowing whether the decision to want something more is the right one?  If you can’t trust yourself who can you trust?  Sometimes all you want is a little, bigger, better and yes, a career with some bling!

There are limits you place on yourself when you reach for more.  Whether those limits are intentional or not, you yearn for a life with purpose, meaning and you seek connections that will yield boundless opportunities.  But how do you actually know when it’s time to make a move or if you will ever get there?  Now more than ever you need to carefully make choices and professional associations that will lead you down a path towards abundance.  That can be a scary proposition especially if you can’t trust yourself.  In order to choose one path you must abandon the other. How will you know that you are making the right choice?  What if you make a mistake?  Can you turn back?

Slow down, it’s not that scary.  You can never be sure that a decision you make will ultimately be the right one.  If you were “right” every time you probably should be calling the shots on Wall Street and really rake in the money.  It’s not about whether you can make the right decision all of the time or even part of the time.  But it is about being thoughtful, conscious and considerate about how you carefully navigate your career moves, no matter what the final decision might be. It’s okay to be discriminating about your choices, after all you can’t really call it “bling” if it shines like glass!  If your career choices don’t feel right then the common rule is it’s probably not right for you.  If you make a mistake it will always be a result of just another option you can choose.  Making mistakes and having options is just part of the process and one you are not likely to avoid. A quote from Cullen Hightower says it all, “Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life. Laughing at someone else’s can shorten it.”  I might add, “Laughing at someone else’s can also make you laugh!”

When you take yourself too seriously and attempt to be accepted whether you are up for a job, up for a promotion, being asked to make a presentation in front of your less than enthusiastic colleagues at Disney, or are just well uptight in general. You create limits for yourself but you always have the choice to self-correct.  Even your own self-correction must be limited or otherwise you’ll zig when you should zag.  Your career has the potential to grow bigger and better. Whether you are in or out of work at the moment, your ability to stay optimistic, motivated and open to new bursts of “bling” will make or break your attempts at navigating the course of your career and moving in into a new direction.  Remember, it’s okay to want more, just manage your expectations and don’t second guess yourself.  Only you know what you really want.
